We caught up with David, having just had his 1 year anniversary with us, to find out how it’s all gone so far.
Q: Having spent nearly 2 decades with a specialist recruitment company, what attracted you to Simply AMR and how have you benefitted from those things after completing your first year?
A: The first thing to say is I needed a change. After so long with 1 company, I felt that the opportunities to progress and ultimately learn new things were diminishing with time. I also had a firm belief that the recruitment model can be limiting, inevitably becoming heavily process driven, often to the extent of stifling creativity.
The opportunity to join Simply AMR gave me the chance to operate with a new format for ongoing learning and development, whilst allowing my expertise to add to the already comprehensive solutions portfolio, which has been extremely rewarding. I get the benefit of opportunities developed by my colleagues and vice versa, which means that across the business there’s truly a collaborative approach rather than just being your own revenue centre, as is so often the case in recruitment.
We regularly share ideas and that helps the business continue to evolve, whilst not losing sight of the things we excel in. In summary, it’s the chance to do things differently and not be tied down by the conventions of how they’ve been done in the past
Q: Are you just focused on external recruitment or is there an internal recruitment focus now too?
A: In the first few months I was mainly focused on external and it was important to get everything established. Since then we’ve outlined how we want to grow the business and the recruitment strategy is a key part of that. One thing that is really important to ensure is whoever we bring into the business is the right cultural fit and this takes precedence over anything else.
There’s an ongoing and open view to considering people that could add to the business, whilst providing them with a unique opportunity for their own development.
Q: What’s in store for year 2 and beyond?
A: I’d like to build on what has been an extremely successful and rewarding first year. I’ve enjoyed working closely with my colleagues on various opportunities and I’d like this to increase in the future, as it’s worked really well so far.
Helping Simply AMR attract talented people to join the team is also going to be a big factor looking at next year and beyond. We’ve identified several areas we can evolve the business and with each there’s an opportunity for someone to take ownership as a specialist, making it their own.
We also have some notable investments planned to ensure we can operate successfully at an even greater scale, although it’s some of the more obscure solutions we’ve been able to provide that have allowed us to show what we can do.
